Early season matches have seen a miscellany of changes in the starting line-ups while head coaches strive to establish a winning combination and this will continue this coming Sunday at Centennial Stadium – Week 5 in the Canadian Soccer League.
York Region Shooters’ midfielder Sebastien Lopez – a recent signing – entered the field as a substitute of a scoreless, hard fought 62 minutes against Toronto Falcons on June 18 to be part of the action that resulted in a winning goal by forward Jacob Yankey four minutes later. The Shooters saw enough of the new player to describe him as a game changer who will likely see more time in the opening match between York Regional Shooters and Continentals FC this coming Sunday.
Unbeaten, top of the standings York Region Shooters has a new team following their four-year absence in the Canadian Soccer League, which makes for an interesting clash with Continentals FC and its line-up consisting of a number of players from the FC Vorkuta years. Continentals are coming off a scoreless tie with current champions Scarborough.
The now high scoring Serbian White Eagles will have confidence following its 7-3 victory over the Brantford-Hamilton combined team BGHC 1 on June 18 to now meet Toronto Falcons at 4 pm, and in the late game BGHC 1 will meet Scarborough – which is now second in the standings – a 6 pm kickoff.
Day admission is $10 at Centennial Stadium, with free parking.
